Firstly, I'm so happy that Nadine (winner of our 'design your own run hipsters' giveaway) requested a Coral Reef design, which ended up inspiring the Coral Reef Run Hipster preorder!!
Gosh, what a wonderful way to raise money to help fund reef restoration. Having lived half my life close to the Great Barrier Reef, I know first hand it really is a thing of wondrous beauty! Not only that, coral reefs are vital to humans, supporting over 500 million people by providing food, livelihoods and protection from coastal erosion. They drive billions in tourism, support fishing industries, provide natural medicine ingredients and act as critical carbon sinks, contributing roughly $95 billion in annual economic and social value to regions like Australia. WHAT!! Yeah, our Great Barrier Reef is pretty important!
Well, I am so proud to say that we have collectively raised $1000 through the sale of the Coral Reef Run Hipsters! Here is the text I received from Karen at the Great Barrier Reef Foundation earlier this week:
